AMI Plan

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has given schools the ability to make up school closure for up to 36 total hours without having to schedule a makeup day.  This plan, called AMI or Alternative Methods of Instruction, will be utilized by the East Newton School District in the event of inclement weather.

The goal of the AMI plan is to provide uninterrupted exposure to concepts and skills that students will use to achieve mastery of objectives and standards.  This consistent exposure is the best way to insure student understanding of content knowledge.

All students will be sent home with packets on Friday, September 11, 2020.  Each packet will contain work for four separate days.  Please put these packets in a safe place where that can be accessed should school be closed due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

If school is cancelled for a particular day, we will notify all parents/guardians, as we have in the past, via school messenger calls/text, emails, and social media postings.  During that notification it will also be stated if the day will be used as an AMI day.

In order for these AMI days to be counted for attendance and not made up, each student will be required to complete the work for that particular day that is within the packet.  Packets will be review or reinforcement of previously taught skills.  The completed assignments will need to be brought back to school and turned in to your child’s teacher.  ONLY the work for that day needs to be done, NOT the entire packet.

Again, this is simply a way that the state is allowing school districts to make up possible missed days of instruction.
