AMI Plan
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has given schools the ability to makeup school closure days, for up to 36 total hours, without adding additional days to the school calendar as makeup days. This plan, called AMI or Alternative Methods of Instruction, will be utilized by the East Newton School District in the event of inclement weather.
The goal of the AMI plan is to provide uninterrupted exposure to concepts and skills that students would use to achieve mastery of objectives and standards. This consistent exposure is the best way to ensure student understanding and retention of content knowledge.
All students will be provided with AMI packets or expectations at the beginning of every school year. Each packet will contain work for four separate days. Please put these packets in a safe place where they can be accessed should school be closed due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
If school is canceled for a particular day, we will notify all parents/guardians, as we have in the past, via school messenger calls/text, emails, and social media postings. During that notification, it will also be stated if the day will be used as an AMI day.
In order for AMI days to be counted for attendance for our school district, each student will be required to complete the work for that particular day that is within the packet. Packet material will be a reinforcement of previously taught skills in the classroom. The completed assignments will need to be brought back to school and turned in to your child’s teacher. ONLY the work for that day needs to be done, NOT the entire packet. Students that are unable to meet the expectations of AMI will be marked absent for that day. These absences will count against anything pertaining to attendance. AMI packets will not impact students' grades.
Again, this is a way Missouri is allowing school districts to makeup missed days of instruction without adding additional makeup days to the school calendar.
