5-8 Principal's Post

Spring Update from Granby 5–8

As we move into April, there is a noticeable energy throughout our building. This time of year brings a strong sense of momentum as students continue to grow academically while also looking ahead to the opportunities and milestones that come with the end of the school year.

Spring sports are now in full swing, and we are proud of the way our student-athletes are representing East Newton through their effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Participation in these activities continues to be an important part of building connections and developing well-rounded students.

In the classroom, our focus remains on strong instruction and targeted support for all learners. Teachers are continuing to emphasize essential skills and helping students apply those skills with confidence as we approach state assessments. Our MAP testing window will begin with 5th grade Science on Friday, April 17, and we are confident our students will be prepared to demonstrate their learning. Our goal is not only to ensure students are ready, but also that they feel supported and capable throughout the process.

We also look forward to several important events in the weeks ahead. Our 8th grade promotion ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 28, as we celebrate the accomplishments of our students and their transition to high school. In addition, our 8th grade students will attend their class trip to Silver Dollar City, and our 7th grade students will travel to Wonders of Wildlife. These experiences provide meaningful opportunities for students to connect, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

As always, your partnership plays a critical role in student success. Encouraging consistent attendance, effort, and a positive mindset makes a difference each day. We appreciate your continued support as we work together to finish the school year strong.

Warm Regards, Mr. Ethan Trokey Principal, Granby 5–8
